My this post is coming after a long time and you know why.. Because I am undergoing my ILP at Trivandrum, and life is really busy here.
Today I would like to share my experiences in Kerala and ILP.
I arrived here at 26 December 2011 and my accomodation was arranged at Kapil Tourist Home, a small guest house in the Kumarapuram area of Trivandrum. Technopark is about 25 kms away from here and the conveyance provided to us is a city carrier (we are given a an Tata Skyline bus.). The bus comes to your hotel depending on your shift timings and picks you back.
I arrived at Kerala with no knowledge of the place and would like to share with you.
If you come by train, you land up at the TVC Central railway station. To reach your accomodation you will have to hire and auto , and later on you will find that autos are the main source of travel in the city.
If you are coming with family members, you would get guest houses near the TVC central railway station.
Once you are settled in your accomodation, there is nothing to worry anything.You just need to arrange for you food, and you will get some restaurant nearby possibly. If you get the executive hostel,, you cant expect anything better because every facility is there.. Girls are mostly accomodated within the TCS campus or near to it.
Once you get on training, days will be mostly hectic and busy.
When you come to kerala for ILP I would advise you to carry some books which may be useful. Some of them are Unix by Sumitabha Das , a J2EE black book (if possible , because it is quite heavy :) ),, Pl/SQL by Ivan Bayross,, and Java by Herbert Schildt. These will be beneficial to you in case you get the Java domain.
For people coming form north my advice is to remain calm with the people of Kerala because their sentiments are different form what ours are. You will find that food is again a lot different because people here eat a lot of beef. At almost every non-veg restaurant you will find beef available.
Don't worry about your groceries beacuse here you will find a popular 'Kerala Margin Free Market' almost everywhere where you will get everything from shampoos, soap, choclates,biscuits,. etc.. and the cost is lower than the MRP in rest of India.

Hi Anand, thanks for your sharing your valuable experience here. I am working for TCS since last 7 yrs or so started my ILP at Coimbatore. And today my brother left for Trivendrum to start his career at TCS , so i was looking for some information which will be helpful for him. Thank you , i shall let him know about your post.
ReplyDeleteKerala is sicken place, the ILP co-ordinators over react to every little thing. They are like goats(brainless) happy to follow every stupid rule without knowing its significance. May be all people there are like that because of the communist regime they are in

DeleteHello I want to ask that if we are coming with parents then can we live for 1-2 days outside or is it necessary to live in the Hostel provided after joining?
ReplyDeleteTrivandrum has developed itself into a city of commercial importance with many corporate companies situated here. One can travel to the place and stay at some of the best hotels in Trivandrum will be bound to come again.
ReplyDeleteI am an employee of tcs who faced torture in scarlett hostel .hostel accomodation of scarlett hostel is good but hostel administration is very poor,misbehave with tcs employees.They even get into physical fights with trainees of tcs.If you have any problem regarding the place or facilities provided they start to shout on employees without understanding the problem and do not consider it seriously.Babu the caretaker of hostel and his servant are the main villain and culprit of all the problems so if anyone of you go there be prepared to live in trouble because of the caretaker inspite having lovely accomodation. They only make rule that you are not allowed to drink,smoke or late night parties but if someone complaints of these things happening they start to shout on the person trying to suppress you and take no action against them.other accomodation sri vinayaka is fine.I am telling you all this because i and my friend had faced all these problems in scarlett acomodation and even my friends training got extended due to all these problems and one of my friend got discontinued due to this problem due to mental pressure and torture he faced in scarlett hostel accomodation whereas no such problem in sri vinayaka accomodation. so guys be careful while finalising your accomodation ask for sri vinayaka and if you get scarlett ask for sri vinayaka otherwise be ready to face hell in heaven place and face mental torture and be ready to extend your training thus risking your future.I am an employee of tcs but can't disclose myself due to fear of losing the job.also office administration is very late in taking action against complaints regarding hostel administration sometimes u face lot of problem due to hostel administration and they dont take disciplinary action so guys be careful
